Human Resources Technician

Human resources are the people who make up the workforce of an organization, business sector, or economy. A human-resource department (HR department) of an organization performs human resource management, overseeing various aspects of employment, such as compliance with labor law and employment standards, administration of employee benefits, organizing of employees files with the required documents for future reference, some aspect of recruitment. Human resource managers plan, direct, and coordinate the administrative functions of an organization.

The seven major functions of Human Resources are: strategic management, workforce planning and employment (recruitment and selection), human resource development (training and development), total rewards (compensation and benefits), policy formulation, employee and labor relations (employment law), and risk management.

Human resources facts and statistics:

  1. The average pay raise is 4.5%, and 88% of businesses plan to give employees raises in this year.
  2. 57% of organizations view employee retention as a problem, and 22% of new hires leave their jobs within 45 days of being hired.
  3. Fully 46% of new hires fail and are let go from their jobs within 18 months of being hired.

The certificate provides updating and/or broadening the knowledge of employees in the field of human resources and for individuals desiring to enter the field. This course will provide a general survey of the theories and contemporary practices in the process of public and private administration. In addition to traditional topics in the field of personnel management, such as recruitment and placement, training and development, compensation and performance appraisals, the course will also focus on techniques for motivation, productivity and creativity associated with individual and organizational effectiveness.
